Earlier this year I bought a 4 year old Bonsai and I was super excited to have it. I would water it regularly, put it in the right environment and even give it special bonsai fertiliser. Despite this, within a few weeks it had died. It was quite a shock to me that even though I done everything that I was told to do the bonsai still died. After a while though it was obvious, of course it would die. What I had done is pick up the bonsai after 4 years of being taken care of properly. Even though I was following the instructions of someone who had maintained it well it still died, and a lot of people have the same issues with opportunities.
People don't understand that when an opportunity comes in your life you often don't get time to prepare for it. The opportunity make itself visible, you then have a choice whether or not you'll take it and soon after it will disappear. Usually, what happens is we see the opportunity, we try our hardest and things don't work out. The reason for this is because to take advantage of opportunities often a lot of preparation is require and this take time. Time we don't have when the opportunity arrives.
So what does this mean?
It means that before an opportunity even comes into our life it's important that we're prepared for it. Now, we can't be prepared for everything so what should we prepare for? That's completely up to you. Ask yourself the following questions; what would I love to do? what do I want to do which would transform my life? what are my values and how prepared am I to execute on them?
Hopefully this gives you a better idea of what you should be preparing for, if you can take this a step further and deeply understand what you want and how you can go about getting it. It's easy to get excited and forget what you you actually should be focusing on just like I did with my bonsai, but by preparing you can save yourself the trouble. Make sure that when an opportunity presents itself in your life, you're ready to take full advantage of it.
Just in case you're not convinced here is another example:
The same concept works if you win the lottery. If you won the £1,000,000 today and are currently terrible at saving and spending money then within a few years I can almost guarantee you that you would be broke again. We've seen this so many times before too! If you want to have something and sustain it you’ve got to experience each step. There are no shortcuts. There are no secrets. Just practice and preparation followed by execution.
I want you to be happy and if you think that you can go into anything halfway along and think you’ll just pick it up you’re wrong. It’s important that you learn the habits and experience the failure as that is what will direct you in the correct path.
