Don’t start this 2020 without understanding how lucky you are!

Firstly, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I hope your year is filled with happiness and success.

Often in life we very quickly get overwhelmed with how much is going on and it becomes very difficult to keep things in perspective. However, I have found a way that helps me to stay happy no matter what and it really is quite simple.

It makes no difference who you are or what you do in life, you’re lucky to be alive. Every single person on Earth is blessed to be here and I don’t care what you’ve been through we have been lucky to experience life itself. Now I know you probably won’t believe this but there’s no denying the maths.

Let’s start at the very beginning, the universe ‘began’ 13.77 billion years ago with the big bang. It took a huge 9.17 billion years after that for our sun to form. Earth was formed very soon after that and then life began around 3.5 billion years ago and for so long there was no humans until a mere 5-7 million years ago. Just think about that. Think about how lucky you are to be the top of the food chain in such an advanced species. The chances of you being born human has been quoted at 1 in 400 trillion (1:400,000,000,000,000) and just to show you the scale of how big a trillion really is take a look at the image below.

Now I don’t have any doubt that your life isn’t always easy but surely you can appreciate that we’re lucky to experience anything at all. Generally speaking, life really is quite positive. You’re born in a time where there isn’t war, you’re lucky enough to have access to a phone which gives you so many opportunities. You don’t have to worry about hunting for food for survival. The medicine that we have is so advanced.

Sure, things do go wrong sometimes but we have to choose to look at the positives. I’ve listed some of the few which apply to all of us and I’m sure if you take a look into your own life you’ll find countless more.

This was just a short blog to remind every single on of you that you’re a walking talking miracle and you’re so lucky to be alive.

I also wanted to say a huge thank you to Navjot Kaur for being supportive in everything I do!
